Chronic work is protective.
Load management can be a complex topic but we do know that spikes in training can increase the relative risk of injury. Spikes can be good for hard training - but having a solid baseline of chronic work protects you.
There has never been a time when this concept has been more relevant. I know gyms are closed but it can be done. If you are an athlete of any level or enjoy seasonal activities, I strongly encourage you to continue your training in any way that you can. No excuses about not having equipment or space.
And don’t go 0 to 100 when the time comes to return - excessive and rapid increases in training can cause soft tissue injuries.
This idea of chronic work can apply to anyone. You should train for life in general. Get your heart rate up, lift heavy things, explore different ranges of motion - this will prepare you for when you have to run after your kid, move that heavy piece of furniture, or place your luggage in the overhead bin (sigh, one day).
