How long should I use my crutches or cane for.

Your surgeon/physician and Physiotherapist will guide you based on your injury/surgery and precautions, but these are my usual requirements.

I canโ€™t tell you how important it is to ๐š๐ฏ๐จ๐ข๐ ๐ ๐ž๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐๐ž๐ฏ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐ญ๐จ๐จ ๐ฌ๐จ๐จ๐ง. I have seen clients end up with increased pain and swelling, persistent compensations, or worse, stumble and re-injure themselves.

A colleague once told me โ€œ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฉ๐ฒโ€ - the sooner you focus on a good symmetrical walking pattern with the help of your device, the sooner you will regain your normal gait and safely ditch it.

Remember, rehab progressions should be based on achieving ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ, and not time. I encourage clients to utilize their device for as long as it takes to meet my criteria.

*opinions are my own. Always consult your surgeon/physician/physio for clearance!
