Commonly used phrases in rehab that need to retire.
Context matters and many of these ideas are used too broadly or simply aren’t true or necessary.
Flatten your back and draw your belly button to your spine
Don’t let your knees go past your toes
This will strengthen your VMO
Squats and deadlifts are bad for you if you have a back issue
Running is bad for your knees
Always keep your back straight
Always bring your shoulder blades down and back
You have low back pain so you should do lots of prone extensions
Your muscle is tight so you need to do lots of stretching
Often these are blanket statements and ignores the individual’s needs and function. A number of these are outdated and research has shown to not be true.
