Physio means “no pain, no gain” right?

Personally I cringe when a client thinks this applies to Physiotherapy!

(Despite the number of people who say they have a high pain tolerance, most don’t actually want significant or prolonged discomfort from treatment)

Soreness with manual techniques and exercises can occur. Sometimes discomfort is necessary, like when trying to regain motion.

It’s important to test your limits, but pushing WAY past them can aggravate symptoms, delay recovery, and keep you from fully participating in Physiotherapy.

So it’s not really worth it for me, as gains can absolutely be made without this mentality. It’s important to challenge you and raise your threshold, while still respecting healing, adaptation, and the long game.

And a good Physiotherapist knows how to do that.
