Should I wear a brace?
In my opinion, unless you have a significant acute injury or recent surgery, braces should be used sparingly. I only recommend one if your pain is severe enough that it limits a lot of your daily activity. And even then it’s use should be limited (I’m talking a couple days!).
Bracing, while protecting your healing tissue, can create too much stiffness, unwanted compensations, and weakness.
Bracing won’t teach your healing tissue to move or handle loads. It won’t make you strong and prevent re-injury.
So whether it’s a back, ankle, or wrist brace, skip it if you can or use it only when you absolutely must. With some Physiotherapy, I assure you that we can build up so that you can get back to what you need to.
