Frequently asked questions.

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a treatment to restore, maintain, and make the most of a client’s mobility, function, and quality of life. Physiotherapy is hands-on and helps through education, physical rehabilitation, injury prevention, and health and fitness.

Physiotherapist is a protected title in Canada. All physiotherapists must meet national entry-level education and practice standards and pass a standardized competence examination prior to being fully licensed with the College of Physiotherapists in their province or territory to ensure they are qualified to provide focused and evidence-informed assessment and treatments.

What is an Orthopedic Physiotherapist?

Orthopedic Physiotherapists are primarily concerned with the neuromusculoskeletal system, including bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. They also assist with rehabilitation and recovery following an accident, surgery, or other procedure.

Do I need a referral?

Physiotherapists are autonomous health professionals and do not require a doctor’s referral to be seen. However, your insurance may require a referral in order to receive reimbursement.

What is acupuncture?

I practice contemporary medical acupuncture. It is a precise peripheral nerve stimulation technique for the therapeutic purpose of modulating abnormal activity of the nervous system. This can address pain syndromes and functional problems. Small sterile, single use needles are inserted into the skin at defined neurofunctional sites and stimulated manually or electrically. It is a tool and incredibly safe.
