Frequently asked questions.
What can I expect at Physiotherapy?
I start by learning about you and your medical history, as well as the timeline of your current issue. Next, I'll complete a physical examination, including watching you perform certain motions, testing range of motion and strength, and completing tests to reproduce your discomfort or dysfunction. This is done to the best of your ability and comfort and requires hands-on portions. We’ll discuss your personalized treatment plan and make sure it aligns with your lifestyle and, most importantly, your goals.
Do Physiotherapy treatments hurt?
Temporary soreness after some manual techniques and exercises can occur and is not worrisome. However, “no pain, no gain” is not always the best approach when it comes to recovery. I always work within a client’s tolerance, to avoid aggravation of symptoms and prolonged discomfort.
We can’t always predict how you will respond, so it’s important to communicate with me in order to troubleshoot.
Do I have to do exercises at home?
Yes! A critical part of treatment is completing your home program as prescribed. It is specifically designed to help you achieve your goals. Particularly, it helps to maintain the gains made from manual treatment and make progress between Physiotherapy sessions. This hastens your overall recovery.
Having Physiotherapy treatment regularly is important, but clients who put in a small daily effort almost every day at home tend to recover sooner. I want to set you up to succeed, so I will prescribe only the most necessary exercises. Results can take time so be patient and your efforts will pay off.
What should I do before my first visit?
Make a list of questions that you have
Read and fill out the appropriate forms as indicated
What should I wear?
Please wear loose fitting clothing and comfortable sneakers. This will help to provide access to areas that need to be seen and treated, as well as participate in the active portion of the session.
How long is each session?
Typically, each session is 30-45 min. The amount of time will be based on your specific needs and wants and will be discussed with you.
How many sessions will I need?
Every client is very individual and no two are alike in their recovery. There are many factors that impact the number of sessions needed. Together, we’ll make a plan and my intention is to help you achieve your goals in as few sessions as possible.
How do I pay?
Payment is due at the time of service. I accept e-transfer, cheque, credit card, and cash. Receipts are provided if you wish to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Please check your insurance coverage to avoid surprises.
Do you have a private treatment room?
I have a semi-private treatment area in the gym but not a closed room. Your comfort is of utmost importance to me so please let me know if you have any concerns.
Is there parking?
There are two parking spots at the rear of our building. Parking is also available along Canvarco Road and the Longo’s plaza.
Is the space like a typical Physiotherapy clinic?
Not at all - and that’s the best part! GRIT Athletics is an open-spaced performance gym. The space is designed for movement and is meant to inspire my clients.
While I often work when it’s empty, small or large group training can be occurring during your session. This can include batting practice. I try my absolute best to schedule around it but sometimes it can't be avoided.
Do you have a waiting area?
We don’t have a waiting area for clients. You’re welcome to hang out in the gym prior to your session but it’s best to arrive right on time.
