What to expect in your first PT session after surgery.

Expect LOTS of information! I love to spend this first session mostly chatting because our first time meeting is so important in my opinion.

Things we go over:

  • The procedure and why you have the precautions you have

  • Reassurance about how difficult it would be to damage the surgical site

  • Your goals

  • A loose outline for rehab, like progressions and milestones

  • Expected discomforts, what kind to worry about and not

  • Strategies for work and home

  • Huge emphasis on what you are still able to do

  • Your first set of exercises

  • How to use your assistive device or brace, if applicable

Post-surgical clients are often really unsure of what’s going on and what’s next. They’re usually terrified to move and cause harm. They’ve temporarily lost a lot of function and that can understandably freak them out.

I really take my time this first day to answer as many questions as possible, get to know you, and prepare you for your awesome rehab journey!
