When can I run again?

Every situation is different, but I typically use the following as indications that a client is prepared to start running, particularly after surgery or major injury.

We start with short intervals of flat straight jogging alternating with walking, and progress from there in terms of length and number of intervals.

We want gradual increases in load so that your body can adapt to each new demand. I use soreness as a guide. Basically, if the session goes well, you can likely progress. If the session doesn’t, then a little rest and backing off is required before another attempt at advancement is made.

Please keep in mind that these are my parameters - there is no gold standard and every surgeon and Physiotherapist follows their guideline of choice

And remember, “too much too soon” is a real thing!
