Tips for acute back pain

Are you experiencing mild-moderate back pain for the first time? Or having a flare-up from an old back injury?

No need to panic. Here are the best tips I can give you:

  • Focus on pain-free movements and positions

  • Gradually test and re-introduce those that are painful

  • Movement is medicine - don’t lie around

  • Imaging does not always indicate what the cause of pain is and often doesn’t change how you proceed

  • Try to continue your basic day to day activities as best you can

  • Most cases of back pain will resolve on their own with a bit of time

If your episode of back pain persists after several weeks, or you have recurring episodes, come see me.

If you’re having severe or debilitating pain, visit me or a doctor soon to get screened.
