How to fix chronic neck pain

Over my 15 year career, I have treated my fair share of clients with persistent neck pain. Along with manual therapy and exercise as treatment, here’s the homework I usually assign:

  • More quality sleep

  • More whole foods and water

  • More general exercise

  • More variety in postures and movements

  • Better addressing of stress

  • Less clenching of the jaw and shrugging of the shoulders

Necks are stubborn and a magnet for stress and inactivity. Trust me when I say that the usual hands-on treatments and devices will not fix chronic neck pain.

My approach is to stop directing all the focus on the symptomatic area and instead redirect attention to your overall physical and mental well being. Focus on activities that you enjoy. Ensure your overall foundational health is great.
